The International Society of Black Latinos (ISBL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California. You can reach us by email at info@blacklatinos.org. When this policy says "ISBL," "we," "us," or "our," it means this organization.
This policy applies to information collected through our website at blacklatinos.org and any forms or services we operate through that site.
2. What Information We Collect
We only collect information that you provide to us directly or that is automatically generated when you visit our site.
Information you give us
Contact form: Your name, email address, and the message you write.
Newsletter signup: Your email address.
Event RSVP: Your name, email address, and optionally a phone number. If an event has a ticket price, payment is processed through PayPal — we do not handle or store credit card details directly.
Membership and volunteer applications: Name, email, and any additional information requested on those forms.
Donations: Donations are processed entirely through PayPal. We may receive a record of the transaction amount but not your full payment details.
Information collected automatically
IP addresses and web traffic logs: Our hosting provider, Netlify, automatically logs IP addresses and basic request information (pages visited, browser type, referring URL) as part of normal web server operations. We do not collect this independently.
Cookies: We do not set tracking cookies ourselves. Some embedded third-party content (such as YouTube videos) may set their own cookies when you interact with them. See the Third-Party Services section below.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect only to operate ISBL's programs and communicate with our community:
Respond to messages and inquiries sent through our contact form.
Send you newsletters and community updates if you subscribed.
Manage event registrations and send you confirmation and ticket information.
Process and acknowledge donations.
Improve our website by reviewing general usage patterns (not individual tracking).
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party — ever. We do not use your information for advertising or share it with marketing companies.
4. How Long We Keep Your Data
Contact form submissions: Kept for up to 2 years, then deleted.
Newsletter subscribers: Retained until you unsubscribe. After unsubscribing, your email is removed from our mailing list within 14 days.
Event RSVP records: Retained for 2 years following the event date for our own record-keeping, then deleted.
Donation records: Retained as required by IRS nonprofit record-keeping rules (typically 7 years).
Web server logs: Managed by Netlify according to their own retention policy (generally 30 days).
5. Third-Party Services We Use
To run our website and programs, we use a small number of trusted outside services. Each has its own privacy policy:
Netlify — Our website host and form processor. Netlify handles form submissions, hosts our files, and logs standard web traffic. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
PayPal — Payment processing for donations and paid event tickets. When you donate or buy a ticket, PayPal handles the transaction. ISBL does not see or store your payment card details. See PayPal's Privacy Policy.
YouTube — We embed YouTube videos on some pages. When you watch an embedded video, YouTube may set cookies and collect usage data under Google's privacy policy, especially if you are logged into a Google account. See Google's Privacy Policy.
LinkedIn, Instagram — Social media links on our site take you to our profiles on those platforms. We do not share your data with those platforms directly; their own privacy policies apply when you use their services.
6. Your Rights
As a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other applicable laws, including:
Right to know: You can ask us what personal information we hold about you.
Right to deletion: You can request that we delete any personal information we hold about you, subject to limited legal exceptions (such as donation records required by law).
Right to opt out of newsletter: Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us directly to be removed.
Right to non-discrimination: Exercising any of these rights will never affect your access to ISBL's programs or services.

7. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Our website is served over HTTPS (encrypted connection), and our hosting provider (Netlify) maintains industry-standard security practices. However, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure. We encourage you not to share sensitive personal information through web forms unless necessary.
8. Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If changes are significant, we will note them clearly. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
